The Yoga of Discriminating the Field and the Knower of the Field
kṣetra-kṣetrajña-vibhāga-yoga
I will describe which is to be known,
And by knowing which one gains immortality.
This is the beginningless supreme Brahman,
Who is said to be neither existent nor nonexistent.
jñeyam yate tat pravakṣryāmi
the to-be-known, which, that I shall declare,
yay jnātāva ‘mṛtam
which knowing, immortality one attains;
anādimat param brahma
the beginningless supreme Brahman
na sat tan nāsad ucyate
not being, this, not not being, it is said.
I shall declare that which has to be known,
Knowing which, one attains immortality;
It is the beginningless supreme Brahman,
Which is said to be neither existent nor non-existent.
At the thick-haired Arjuna’s command, the bristling-haired Krishna brought the principal chariot to a stop between the two armies— in front of Bhishma, Drona, and all of these sovereigns of the world.

“Look, Arjuna. From here you can see
all the Kurus who are gathered to do battle.
At Guḍākeśa’s words, O Bhārata, Hṛṣīkeśa stationed the fine chariot between the two armies, before Bhīṣma, Droṇa and all the kings, and he said to the Pārtha, “Behold the Kurus assembled!”

“Arjuna, behold all the Kurus gathered together.”
jñeyam (n. acc. sg. gerundive √jñā), to to-be-known, the object of knowledge.
yad (n. acc. sg.), what, which.
tad (n. acc. sg.), that.
pravakṣryāmi (1st future act. pra √vac), shall declare, I shall explain.
yad (n. acc. sg.), which.
jnātāva (gerund √jnā), knowing, having known.
amṛtam (n. acc. sg.), immortality.
aśnute (3rd sg. pr. indic. mid. vas), one attains, he attains, he reaches.
anādimat (n. nom. sg.), beginningless, without beginning.
param (n. nom. sg.), supreme, highest.
brahma (n. nom. sg.), Brahman.

sat (n. nom. sg.), being, existing .
tad (n. nom. sg.), this, that.
na, not.
asat (n. nom. sg.), not being, not existing.
ucyate (3rd sg. pr. indic. passive √vac), it is said.
