The Yoga of Arjuna’s Crisis
arjuna-visāda-yoga
O Highest of the Twice-Born,
Know also the most distinguished of our men,
Leaders in my army.
Let me name them for your recognition.
asmākam tu, viśistās ye tān
ours indeed distinguished who
nibodha dvijottama
them know! O Highest of the Twice-born
nāyakās mama sāinyasya
leaders of my army
samjñārtham tān bravīmi te
for information I name to thee:
Ours too are acclaimed, Best of the Twice Born, you should know by name as the commanders of my army:
One man loves you with pure
devotion; another man loves
the Unmanifest. Which of these two
understands yoga more deeply?
Who are the foremost adepts of yoga; those who attend on you with the devotion they constantly practice, or those who seek out the imperishable that is unmanifest?
Of those steadfast devotees who love
you and those who seek you as the
eternal formless Reality, who are the
more established in yoga?
