The Yoga of Arjuna’s Crisis
arjuna-visāda-yoga
By these evils of those who
Destroy a family
And create caste mixtures,
The immemorial dharmas of caste and family are destroyed.
doṣāir etāiḥ kulaghnānāḥ
by wrongs these of the family destroyers
varṇasamkarakārakāiḥ
by intermixture of caste producing,
utsādyante jātidharmās
they are abolished, caste duties,
kuladharmās ca sāśvatās
and family laws eternal
By these wrongs of the family destroyers,
Producing intermixture of caste,
Caste duties are abolished,
And eternal family laws also.
By these family destroyers’ crimes, making for the atomization of clan, their birth obligations are dispossessed and so too amaranthine family duties.
Facing Bhishma, Drona, and
the other great kings, he said:
“Look, Arjuna. From here you can see
all the Kurus who are gathered to do battle.
At Guḍākeśa’s words, O Bhārata, Hṛṣīkeśa stationed the fine chariot between the two armies, before Bhīṣma, Droṇa and all the kings, and he said to the Pārtha, “Behold the Kurus assembled!”

“Arjuna, behold all the Kurus gathered together.”
doṣāir (m. inst. pl.), by wrongs, by sins, by evils.
etāis (m. inst. pl.), by these.
kulaghnānām (m. gen. pl.), of the family destroyers.
varṇa (m.), caste, color.
samkara (m. from sam √kṛ), intermixture, pouring together.
kārakāis (m. inst. pI. from √kṛ), by producing, by making, by creating.
(varṇasamkarakārakāis, m. inst. pI. TP cpd., by creating intermixture of caste.)
utsādyante (3rd pI. pr. indic. passive causative ud √sad), they are withdrawn, they leave off, they disappear, they are obliterated, they are abolished.
